Harvey Yamagata Receives Foreign Minster’s Commendation

On November 9, 2022, Harvey Yamagata received a Commendation from Japanese Foreign Minister Yashimasa Hayashi for his dedication to building relations between Japan and the U.S.

Harvey Yamagata has been an integral part of the Fort Worth Japanese Society for many years. He joined the Board of Directors in 1997 and has served as our president since 2004. Our community would not be what it is today without his excellent leadership as we continue to grow year by year.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Yamagata discussed the importance of building mutual understanding between Japanese and American peoples through community work. Coming together at events, such as our luncheons, language classes, and bi-annual Japanese festivals, fosters an understanding that is foundational to peace between our nations. As Mr. Yamagata said, “understanding different cultures enriches us all.”

We hope to have Mr. Yamagata’s leadership for many more years to come and are excited to see where he guides our community.
