Oshogatsu Luncheon - A New Year Begins
On January 8th, the Fort Worth Japanese Society celebrated the beginning of a new year together with our annual potluck luncheon. This luncheon is typically the most highly-attended event and, as usual, our members did not disappoint. We had a wonderful turnout to our first event of 2023.
Some of the foods our members brought this year were Japanese curry, tempura fried shrimp, and inarizushi. There were almost as many desserts as there were entrée dishes!
One of the features of this particular luncheon is the raffle. For $1 each, members that attend the Oshogatsu luncheon can buy raffle tickets to win prizes ranging from bags of Japanese rice and gift certificates to local Japanese restaurants to a 55” TV won by one lucky member.
The Oshogatsu luncheon is not just a way for us to celebrate the new year together, but also our annual all-member meeting. FWJS members are always invited to make suggestions and feedback on the operation of the society, this luncheon is meant to give those members a voice in the board members that handle the day-to-day and event operation.
This year, our members voted in four new members including Nobue Collins, Mikako Daniel, Tammy Mata, and Jeremy Lord. We have no doubt that these four new board members will be an invaluable part of our future.
Once again, we can’t wait to see what this year has in store. Thank you for all our members that continue to show up to our luncheons and make each and everyone of them special.
